In 2021, HAF Uganda with funding
from Learning Equality implemented Flying Colors 1.0 that was piloted in four schools in Palabek
Refugee Settlement. The schools included Aywee Primary School, Ogili Hill Nursery and Primary
School, World View Primary School and Apyeta Primary School.
HAF Uganda being a direct implementor in the education sector, introduced Flying Colors classes to
accommodate out of school children (refugee and host) at lower primary to in cooperate them into
school settings.
Flying Colors is a playful, blended and project-based learning that combines Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Foundational Literacy and Numeracy. It includes intentional, real-world applicability, incorporating different disciplines.
Installing hardware: solar panels, servers and tablets were installed in each of the four schools
Playful needs such as playing materials, mats, drawing books and pens among others were provided to the learners
A group of teachers (educators) were trained to deliver flying colors sessions
In 2024, flying colors 2.0 was launched in August to take 18 weeks with the aim of being sustained and in cooperated in to mainstream education in three schools at Palabek Refugee Settlement, that is, Aywee Primary School, Ogili Hill Nursery and Primary School and World View Primary School. An updated curriculum focused on SEL, foundational literacy and numeracy to achieve its objectives.
